Creating you own list of financial instruments available through Yahoo financial service

There are two ways to add your own financial instruments:

Variant #1: using standard tool in TS downloader

In order to do that run TS Downloader, click "User_Defined":

The table will appear:

You need to fill out this form: the first column is the name of your financial instrument, the second column is a Yahoo symbol for this financial instrument. Click button to save your work into some file. Let it be my_instruments.csv file. After that click button to update your financial instruments.

After that you can use these instruments in TS Scanner software. In Sectors list highlight User_Defined item and industry list box choose my_instruments (as an example):

BTW, next time when you plan to update  the price history with TS Downloader, you need to choose "User_Defined" item and click "Update" button:

Variant #2: creating your own Excel files with your financial instrument data

You can create your own list of financial instruments. As an example, let's create a list of ETF's available through Yahoo financial service.

In order to do that open Excel and create a table similar to this one:

The first column here points the name of the financial instrument, the second column is its symbol. This symbol should be available through Yahoo, you can check any symbol with Timing Solution: run Timing Solution software and click this button there:

type a symbol you want to check, let it be IWM symbol:

and click "Download data" button. If everything is Ok, the program should download this symbol through Yahoo financial service.

To speedup this procedure, you simply build the list of symbols skipping the names this way:

Next step, you should save this Excel file into a special User_Defined folder, it is here:

..\Timing Solution DMS\Scanner\User_Defined\

To get the full content of this folder, you can run TS Downloader, click this button and in the popup menu highlight the first item:

You should save this file into comma delimited text format (file extension *.csv), in order to do that choose this "Save as type" item:

and the last step is: you should update the price history for your financial instrument:

run TS downloader, choose "User_Defined" exchange, click "More" button and in the popup menu highlight the first option "Recreate index file...":

You need to do this procedure once only, when you add a new financial instrument. Next time you should simply click a standard button.
